Oxford County Sheriff’s Office has an opening for a FULL TIME Corrections officer.

Candidates will be required to pass a Criminal BACKGROUND check and submit to a POLYGRAPH examination, as well as any required basic physical examination. 

DESCRIPTION:   As a Correctional Officer, your work will involve the custody, security, discipline, transport and care of offenders in Oxford County Jail.

This includes monitoring the offenders behavior, overseeing all prisoner movement, completing daily activities and tasks assigned.  Correctional officers routinely
Must deal with problems associated with institutional life, ensuring offenders abide by rules, regulations and policies and procedures.  Ensure standards compliance, utilize equipment provided and maintain clean/sanitary conditions.

As well as have the ability to:

  • Understand and Follow instructions
  • Interpret and enforce rules and regulations
  • Do strenuous activities as climbing stairs and/or escorting unruly inmates
  • Stand/walk for long periods of time
  • COMMUNICATE effectively with prisoners and coworkers
  • Handle critical situations.
  • Make decisions and act quickly in emergency and /or dangerous situations
  • Work 12 hours shift, to include nights. 6PM-6AM
  • Work Holidays and weekends
  • Understand that Overtime and extended shift work will be required as needed.
  • Utilize standard desktop computer programs that are required. 

Qualifications:   Graduation from High School or equivalent, Upon hire must pass the basic Corrections Training Course, Have a valid Maine Drivers License.
